The Christopher Hotel, the first hotel in St. Barths to obtain Green Globe Gold certification

5 September 2025 | Published byHotel Christopher

For the fifth year in a row, the Christopher Hotel Saint-Barth is honored to renew its Green Globe certification. This regularity and consistency has enabled us to achieve the prestigious Gold status, a symbol of a sustainable and continuous commitment to the planet.

As the first hotel in St. Barths to be certified Green Globe, we are proud to be the first on the island to achieve this level of excellence, which rewards several years of concrete and measurable efforts.

Green Globe Gold: global recognition

The Green Globe certification is one of the most respected labels in the sustainable tourism sector. Based on more than 400 criteria, it evaluates hotel practices around four main pillars:

– sustainable management

– social and economic responsibility

– preservation of cultural heritage

– respect for the environment.

Gold status is awarded to institutions that are certified five years in a row, after a thorough assessment and successful completion of independent audits. This is not an automatic title, but an exceptional recognition given only to hotels that demonstrate consistent and measurable efforts over time.

Our initiatives for sustainable tourism in St. Barths

For several years, the Christopher has been taking many actions to reduce its impact and preserve the unique beauty of St. Barths.

Thanks to responsible water management, we have our own desalination plant as well as the AquaChiara system, which allows us to produce our drinking water directly on site. This autonomy not only offers us a valuable resource, but also considerably reduces our carbon footprint, by limiting the import of plastic bottles.

In addition, we are actively committed to the protection of coral reefs. In collaboration with Ouanalao Reef and Coral Shepherd near Sugarloaf Island, we participate in marine restoration projects. To support these essential actions, we regularly organize fundraisers through various local events such as the St. Barth market, first dives or wellness stands.

In addition, every year, we mobilize our teams and partners to carry out clean-up operations on the island, particularly at Pointe Milou. These initiatives aim to preserve the landscapes of St. Barths and raise awareness in the community about the importance of protecting the environment.

Finally, our commitment is also reflected in our culinary offer. Our restaurant promotes local and seasonal products, favouring short circuits and actively fighting against food waste, in order to offer gastronomy that is both refined and responsible.

A collective success

At Christopher, we believe that luxury and sustainability go hand in hand. This success would not have been possible without the involvement of our teams and partners, who invest themselves every day to bring this project to life.

Together, we promote more responsible tourism in Saint-Barth, preserving its unique environment for future generations.
